It was time to say goodbye to Varenna and head off to Interlaken Switzerland. The train station was only about 700m from our accomodation so it was a relatively easy walk. Or as easy as could be dragging such large luggage around, note to self, think of what you want to take to Europe and then half it, you don’t need it.

We had breakfast at the station because it was an early train and you are lucky if you can find anyone who serves breakfast before 9am in Italy. Soon we were on our way, first stop Milan.
The more training we do in Europe the more we love it, the trains are very comfortable and well appointed, they have all been on time, at least in our experience and it is a very relaxing way to travel. Great views of the countryside.
We had about one and a half hours wait for our next train from Milan to Spiez Switzerland. So I found a good Cafe, had a beer and blogged while Di took a stroll around Milan.
Just outside the train station our Italian brothers were there with their carts. She met Patricia. She was very friendly and gave Di a bit of a history lesson on Milan and some of the famous buildings there. Always good to see the bros.
Next leg was Milan to Spiez Switzerland. We really noticed the difference passing across the border from Italy into Switzerland. We went from virtually no clouds to overcast and Di says that it smells like New Zealand. Apparently a clean smell of soil and grass…. go figure. The houses are certainly different.
We arrived in Interlaken after another train change at Spiez at about 3pm, checked into our B&B accomodation “Sunny Days” which was only about 10 minutes walk from the train station. After settling in we went for a stroll around town. This town is situated between two lakes (hence the name Interlaken). It’s the gateway to the ski fields of Grindelwald and Murren in the Jungfrau region.
Tomorrow we will be taking the train up to the “Top of Europe” so stay tuned.
