Had a lovely breakfast sent to our rooms this morning all be it a European breakfast, no bacon and eggs here. Still very enjoyable. Another great thing about this accomodation is the internet, it’s lightening fast. I have been running a speed test at each of the accomodations we have been staying at (hey, I’m a nerd, leave me alone) , 48mb/sec download and 5mb/sec upload, NBN speeds.

Interlaken was so busy it was really good to have a day that was at a more relaxed, slower pace. It gave us the opportunity to get some necessary things done. Di found a laundry nearby and did a little washing, while I did a little work, then we went out for a walk and explored the old town of Dijon. But first and foremost it was essential for me to get data for my phone while in France. How hard could that be? Unfortunately I left Di in H&M, (huge sales on here!) and even though she can’t speak French she knows a couple of words. I had 3 shop assistants trying to figure out what I needed but none of us had a clue what the other was saying. After much hand waving, phone pointing and frustration they managed to convey I would be better off going to a tobacco shop for the sim card. Two doors down I find one and in a few seconds I have what I need. Beer time! I found myself a comfortable seat, in a square where I could set my phone up, have a cool ale, people watch and wait for Di.

We strolled around the old town and after lunch crossed through to the new town. So different in such a short distance. I must say, I have done a great job of selecting our accommodation in Dijon. Nice place and a great location. We have searched for the famous Dijon mustard shops and at this stage have not found one!

We really would have liked to hire bikes and ride through the streets. In the old part of town there are very few cars and lots of streets that are just for bikes and pedestrians. We found a stand of them but we were unable to access them without a special card, going onto their website proved to be totally fruitless, they need a new website, and a good web developer. Potential work there if I could speak the lingo!

We had dinner at the main square in front of the Dukes Palace. There was a band playing rock music right in front of us. I actually didn’t mind them at all. Di thought she was having steak so she ordered it medium rare, it turned out that she had ordered a hamburger and it came raw with an egg on top. I had the beef bourguignon it was delicious.

That’s it for us on Dijon, tomorrow we travel to Paris. We might have enough time to go to the markets here in the morning before we go.

  • You are both looking very relaxed and happy. I must say, life could get boring if we didn’t have to eat and drink. The food and drink experiences are certainly making for some holiday memories and good times.
